Whoops to a Whoa

I was doing my quiet time the other day, and was supposed to be reading a verse in Acts to complement what we were studying in Colossians that day. Well, I turned to the right chapter, and then read the wrong verse. Whoops.

But this is what I read:

“Why does it seem incredible to any of you that God can raise the dead?” – Acts 26:8

I just sat there for a minute thinking about that, and thinking about how often I doubt that God can or desires to raise men and women from the dead. Both physically and spiritually. So often my view of God is so small that I try to fit Him into this tiny little box that is fully in the realm of what my own brain can comprehend or thinks is logical.

But He is God. The creator of the universe, the maker of man, the Sovereign ruler of all things. Why should I be shocked that He can raise the dead? He made everything, so logic would say that He can then do whatever He wants with what He made, including bringing something that was dead back to life. When I truly believe that this is Who God is and how He acts, my faith grows by leaps and bounds, and then anything can happen.

Another verse that speaks to this is in Isaiah 55:8-9 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord, and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

So humbled, and thankful for that the Lord used my looking up the wrong verse to show me where I wasn’t believing Him for who He is in reality.
